Google has announced that they are changing the way they interpret their users’ search commands. The popular search engine is now upgrading their system in order to understand the search requests of their users better and more efficiently. Google has announced in a presentation on Thursday (September 26) that they will have a new search algorithm that will be codenamed as ‘Hummingbird.’ This is the first algorithm upgrade from the Android company since three years and aims to improve how they handle search jobs for their clients.
New Algorithm for Longer Inquiries and Search Request
Prior to the presentation made by Google, the new algorithm has been running for about a month and is already taking effect in an estimate of 90% of all Google searches made. The company did not state any further details about the new algorithm but announced that Hummingbird will be very useful in understanding more complex and longer queries and searches. They also emphasized that the improvement will enable more conversational and natural interactions with their search engine. This will actually be very useful in using the users’ voices to state requests into smartphones and other wearable technologies such as smart watches.
Its predecessor, Caffeine, is known to be better at indexing websites for search results while the Hummingbird algorithm will focus on ranking data together with a more intelligent interpretation of search queries and requests. In fact, according to the company, it is a part of their continuing effort to make search engine interaction simpler and more human. An actual example was shown during the presentation and showed how accurate the new algorithm works after users spoke their request with a normal human conversation and got pertinent results based on what they have said.
What Search Experts Say About Hummingbird
Instead of being amazed of Hummingbird, search engine experts are still hesitating about the effects of the new algorithm, especially on indexing website results. They are still waiting for further impact of the said change implemented by Google by saying that it is too early to be a stunned by Hummingbird.
Aside from the new algorithm, Google also announced during the presentation its new update for their existing search app for Apple iOS devices and said that they will have a more ‘visible’ presence of voice search, especially on their home page.
